You probably know the acronym GAFAM, which represents the world’s most influential Internet platforms: Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft. Those companies are perhaps stronger than any country in the world. Their power is due, first of all, to the huge amount of information they possess, including personal data.
Those platforms, along with a few others- Youtube, Twitter, and TikTok- have great influence on the information shared by websites and individuals, from two points of view: first, the algorithms they create predetermine the choices of users, and the people and companies that sell their content are naturally interested in having more subscribers and viewers. And secondly, these global platforms decide against whom and when sanctions should be applied, up to the point of blocking.
In that regard, I hope the intentions of the Internet giants are honest, and every inhabitant of the earth, regardless of nationality, religion, political or other beliefs, should contribute to the fact that there are as few calls to violence, hate speech, racism, etc. on the Internet as possible. The implementation of the intentions is certainly not ideal, because it is built mainly on catching this or that “dangerous” word and applying sanctions on that basis. But any word can be used in dozens of meanings depending on the cultural context, and that context is not the same in different nations and in different states. But, in the end, we are talking about companies operating in the USA, and if you want to use an American private website, please research that country and that nation, and be guided by their rules. Otherwise, you may not register an account on those sites.
So I don’t really have any complaints about social networks. I am dissatisfied with my state, which has a much more passionate position in this field than our opponents. Azerbaijan manages to add the words and names that are important to us to the list of undesirables. And what is our state doing? It uses its fake factory only to solve internal political problems.
