Those forcibly displaced as a result of the 2020 war initiated by Azerbaijan in the Hadrut, Karvachar, and Kashatagh regions of Artsakh were protesting in front of the RA government on July 28 to raise concerns about the future of Artsakh and the social problems caused by the war. They also marched to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where they expressed their willingness to receive several persons. After the meeting that lasted more than an hour, Levon Hayryan, the president of For the Sake Hadrut, informed journalists that they wanted to have a private conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan, but one of the heads of the department and the representative of the media service accepted.
“They promised to do everything they could. We have presented the situation and our problems and demands in detail. Naturally, governments always try to shift the responsibility to another sphere, and here we noticed a similar tone. They said that some things are not under their authority. We said that the solution to all issues lies in adjusting the status of Artsakh. Why don’t they recognize the status of Artsakh? It is not understandable for us that in some cases RA and Artsakh are separated, and in some cases they are not,” said Levon Hayryan.

He emphasized that he spoke out that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan “outside” talks about those who became refugees as a result of the war, but the people of Artsakh in RA today do not have the status of refugees. “We demand to be granted refugee status. They said: yes, you don’t have a status, but we can present you abroad as a refugee.
We said that we expect preparations for a meeting with the minister. They answered that they will pass it on to him.” Levon Hayryan also informed that it is not excluded that the refugees will hold a sit-in in front of the RA government in the near future and demand to be granted refugee status.
