Raffi Hovhannisian, the founder of the Heritage party and the first foreign minister of Armenia, considers the ban on his entering Artsakh to participate in the baptism of his grandchild a one-time misunderstanding.
On August 1st, the Russian peacekeepers did not allow Raffi Hovhannisian to enter Artsakh.
“I hope that before September 1, that is, on the eve of the Artsakh state holiday, the authorities of the Republic of Artsakh, Major General Volkov, and the National Security Service will restore their sovereignty, authority, and dignity, and also my exclusive right in the Republic of Armenia to be in the territory of Artsakh and participate, like every year, in the celebration of the declaration of independence of the Republic of Artsakh,” said Mr. Hovhannisian.
According to him, it is not important whether the source of that one decision comes from a war criminal sitting in Baku or from a former supreme commander hiding in Yerevan who targeted a family baptism ceremony. “The domain of this is the Major General, the sub-sovereign statehood of the Republic of Artsakh, and the relevant body of the Republic of Armenia. None of them should say that I have no comment. Let’s set aside the fact that this is a former foreign minister; my balance of Artsakh’s and Armenia’s sovereignty and statehood is between me and God. It is not subject to publication. But, as a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, as an Armenian, it is my exclusive right to be in our homeland, the Republic of Artsakh. I have nothing to hide and on September 1, I expect that Aghavno will be in its place, the corridor will be in its place, and the highest authority of the Republic of Artsakh, the Major General, will restore my exclusive right.”
