August 16,2022 15:25

With the financial support of the European Union, within the framework of the “COVID-19 Solidarity Program 2020-2022” program of the Helsinki Committee of the Netherlands, the “In the name Freedom” legal non-governmental organization launched the “Know and Be Informed” program. The program includes 4 penitentiary institutions in Armenia and is aimed at raising awareness and prevention of viruses, particularly COVID-19. According to the president of the organization, Irina Manukyan, the program will be implemented in the Armavir, Goris, Abovyan, and Convict Hospital penitentiaries. Eighty-two people serving punishment will be included in the courses-exercises organized by non-formal education methods. “Surveys have shown that people serving sentences are less likely to get vaccinated. We will try to raise awareness so that they get vaccinated,” said Irina Manukyan.

At the same time, within the framework of the program, a legislative project will be developed, which will propose to revise the sentence of the persons serving punishment during the epidemics.

By the way, before the start of the program, the two-day exercise “Protection of interests and influence on politics in closed institutions in the context of COVID-19” was held for the members of the organization.
