There is a tense situation in the city of Masis in the Ararat province. An unknown person entered the Masis community hall with a grenade, shot at the police, and locked himself in the mayor’s room.

A Facebook user named Hayk Baghdasaryan shared videos on his Facebook page.

“There is a problem with the building of Masis municipality. It’s kind of quiet at the moment. Both the NSS and the police officers have completely blocked this section. The central section of the road leading to the municipality is completely closed,” Hayk Baghdasaryan said.

“A while ago, I saw the deputy mayor of the enlarged Masis community, Norayr Hakobyan. I will try to find out something from him,” said the Facebook user and noted that emergency vehicles also approached the area. He added that the two deputy mayors are on the spot, using a drone to take pictures of the area where the unknown person was locked up. “According to witnesses, that person had grenades,” said the Facebook user.

According to several sources, the name of the person with the grenade was Eduard Margaryan. He was a former member of the Masis city council.

Later, Narek Sargsyan, an employee of the Information Department of the Republic of Armenia Police, informed journalists that the citizen had committed suicide. “The body of a person with a gunshot wound to the head was found.”
