“Should we show that we are demanding or not? If we don’t show it, does the world really care that you are demanding?”: Demonstration for Aghavno and Berdzor

August 23,2022 12:25

On August 22, citizens protested against the surrender of Berdzor and Aghavno in Republic Square, some distance from the government building. They were not allowed to approach the government building. The protesters were raising their voice in protest with posters carrying the following messages: “Where is the dignity of the Armenian people hidden?”, “Berdzor and Aghavno are the beginning of the end of our statehood”, “National unity, nation-army.”

One of the protesters, Arevik Nikoghosyan, said, “We demand our rights in our own land. We just want our lands to stay with us. It is a stereotype; they want to scare the people. With the uprising, the people can achieve that Aghavno and Berdzor remain for us. Should we show that we are demanding or not? If we don’t show it, does the world really care that you are demanding? The world won’t know. You have to protest so that the world knows and supports you.”

Activist Artur Sargsyan also said that we must fight to preserve Armenia. “We want to spread the ideology of Nzhdeh, which has always kept Armenians Armenian, so that people understand that they are a force. Many want to belittle our heroes. We want to fight to create a powerful Armenia.” One of the protesters said that by protesting, he has no expectations from Nikol Pashinyan; he knows that Pashinyan will not listen. “My expectation is from my Armenian people. We want to say that there is an alternative. Let’s decide how we and our children will live. I want to tell the parties: put down your flags, we don’t judge you, we don’t do anything, let’s save our homeland.”
