A blow to the “pro-Westerners”

September 08,2022 10:33

When the “pro-Western” admirers of the current government of Armenia claim that Armenia is throwing off the “Russian yoke,” that the negotiations mediated by Charles Michel mean that we are showing unprecedented independence in the diplomatic sphere, and, in general, if not tomorrow, then very soon, Armenia will buy weapons from the USA, I wonder what they mean?  I tend to assume that they understand very well that their judgments are far from reality, and their goal is purely internal political propaganda, to give a couple of “punches” to the parliamentary opposition, which, according to them, is Russia’s “fifth column,” which wants to overthrow our contemptible government at Putin’s orders.

If any unbiased person listened to Nikol Pashinyan’s speech in Vladivostok, with many thanks and compliments to Putin and Russia, then, I think, he would have no doubts about who is the “number one Putinist” in Armenia. Besides reverences, the Prime Minister made several other important points. “We hope,” he said, “To smooth the relations with Turkey with the support of Russia.” In other words, the head of Armenia actually admits that there is no direct dialogue with Turkey because our country does not have enough independence for that. The compliment addressed to the head of the EAEU was interesting: “The economic growth currently expected in Armenia is conditioned by the freedoms provided by the Eurasian Economic Union.”

Let me remind you that Pashinyan’s “pro-Western” propagandists talk about that union almost with blasphemy.

Finally, let’s look at the main record of the Prime Minister’s speech, according to which Russia is a key factor for security in the region. I totally agree with that – it’s another question entirely that I wouldn’t want it to be that way. But the aforementioned supporters of the government, I think, do not agree with it.

Of course, it would be very good if there were no need for Russian troops in Artsakh, and we could ensure the safety of our compatriots ourselves. It would be very desirable if we could conduct dialogue with Turkey without intermediaries. It would be wonderful if we were not so dependent on Russia. But the realities are much harsher than our wishes, and the government of Armenia has to take into account those realities, which were also created by the fault of that same government.

I just don’t understand what is the point of denying these realities and talking about some fantastic prospects for internal propaganda or any other purpose.
