“Turkey will support Azerbaijan’s aggressive demands at least until elections are held in Turkey in 2023. Along with all this, Erdogan’s main support in Turkey is the nationalist, Islamist sections of the population, which naturally do not stand out for their Armenian love. Erdoğan has a problem here to keep the votes of this electorate for himself,” said Taron Hovhannisyan, an expert of the Orbeli analytical center and Turkologist, in a conversation with Aravot, referring to the statements made in favor of the Azerbaijani side in one of the last interviews of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. “Therefore, there is no need to expect any change in Turkey’s oppressive policy until the elections are held. After the elections, I cannot say in which direction the Turkish authorities will go,” adds Taron Hovhannisyan.
