At this stage of the war, when the enemy is attacking Armenia, penetrating into our sovereign territory, it is clear that our citizens express extremely emotional thoughts. It is also completely understandable that politicized people must find a reason to make accusations against this or that party, and political propagandists are forced to “whitewash” their own and “blacken” their opponents. People submit claims to different “addresses,” and often the addressees, as they say, are not “relevant.” It is obvious that the West cannot help us, no matter what wonderful statements they make, Russia (CSTO) does not want to do it, it has been said many times why, and the UN Security Council will at best make some vague calls.
All of them should be avoided and vain hopes should not be cherished. It makes sense to present demands to the Armenian opposition, politicians, public figures, and the Diaspora, if the state of Armenia can organize them. Therefore, the only addressee of our demands should be the government, regardless of who likes it and even regardless of the names of those in power.
The main demand is not to sign any document with Aliyev at this moment, when, according to official data, 10 square kilometers of the territory of Armenia is occupied. That paper will not stop the war, and will not even lead to a long-term truce, it will not protect 29 thousand square kilometers. The second demand arising from this is to declare martial law and mobilization. Therefore, the government must accept that what is happening is not a “border incident,” “border tension,” not “provocation” – it is a full-scale war. If Jermuk is a border town, then Yerevan is also a border town.
Of course, martial law and mobilization imply not only the recruitment of soldiers, but also, on the one hand, a certain limitation of democratic freedoms, on the other hand, certain measures in the economy, and most importantly, the consolidation of society. In the last point, we have serious difficulties: the current and previous governments have done everything to demobilize the society, so that people live with their petty, domestic concerns, and weaken their self-defense instinct. But the easiest thing is to complain about the situation and write disappointed statuses on Facebook. You have to work with the public.
