September 16,2022 12:02

Addressing the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and particularly the recent events, Gabon’s representative said that no military solution is viable, and violence reinforces mutual grievances between the parties in the region, so all the forces that have an influence on the conflicting parties,  should call for a peaceful solution. He said that his country welcomes the UN Secretary General’s proposal to resolve the issue diplomatically. He called for restraint on both sides.

The representative of India said that it is necessary to first find out why the tension on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan escalated. She recalled that in September 2020, the situation also escalated, civil infrastructures were also hit. The representative of India called for restraining the aggressor, whose actions pose a danger not only to the region, but also to the whole world.

“The UN Security Council cannot afford to remain silent and wait for the situation to become more serious. Let me remind you that the ceasefire on November 9, 2020, with the efforts of the Russian Federation, the EU, and the OSCE Minsk Group, is an effective mechanism… This problem should not have military and violent solutions,” she said.
