“There is no panic in Verishen or Akner,” said Artak Zadayan, the administrative head of the Verishen community, during a conversation with journalists. He mentioned that there was no shooting from 8-9 in the evening of September 14. “There is no panic in the village. Several families evacuated their young children to Goris, and one to our caves.”
Artak Zadayan mentioned that four residential houses were damaged in the village. “Four or 5 rockets fell on the village. Besides that, hundreds of rockets fell 700-800 meters above the village. At around three o’clock yesterday, we had a civilian injured while helping our boys. Three shells fell at that moment. He is currently in the hospital. He has a shrapnel injury to his leg, but his life is not in danger.” He emphasized that nothing like this happened either during the April or 44-day wars.
“It also happened in the ‘90s. We had two victims.”

According to Artak Zadoyan, now the residents of the village have returned to their daily lives. The administrative head is concerned that the villages of Verishen and Akner are not recognized as bordering. “I also spoke to the governor. He said that he has appealed to the government, but there is no answer so far.”
He mentioned that he does not understand why the villages are not recognized as border villages. “From May 12, 2021, about 1,500 hectares of the administrative territory of Verishen are under the control of Azerbaijan. We have an 8.4 km section with the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan just from the Verishen administrative area. Akner has approximately 1.3 km. It is a 10 km section: Verishen, Akner, along the entire Lake Sev.”
