“We conveyed our position that for us the support of the American state to Azerbaijan, which continues the war, is unacceptable,” said Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a member of the Armenian NA faction Armenia, representative of the ARF Supreme Body, in a conversation with reporters after a closed meeting with the speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, Nancy Pelosi. The meeting of opposition MPs lasted about 1.5 hours.
Ishkhan Saghatelyan mentioned that the meeting was organized at the suggestion of the embassy, and 6 deputies of the two opposition factions of the Armenian NA participated. He stated that the existing problems were raised in several directions and elaborated, “We talked about the Azerbaijani aggression, we very clearly conveyed our position that Azerbaijan, which continues the war, is unacceptable for us to support the American state to Azerbaijan, we are talking not only about the volumes, but also about the military-political support. Because of this, Azerbaijan becomes more brazen and insolent and continues its aggression against Armenia.”
Ishkhan Saghatelyan said that he and Nancy Pelosi also talked about Resolution 907, about stopping aid to Azerbaijan next year, and the issue of Armenian prisoners of war was also touched upon with concrete facts. Ishkhan Saghatelyan said that the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress assured that they will not be satisfied with just statements. After their return, they will at least discuss and raise these issues in the Congress.

, the head of the I Have Honor faction of the Armenian National Assembly, also stated that Resolution 907, all formulations implemented until today that Azerbaijan is not an aggressor, no longer exist, in particular, it is a fact recognized by the USA that Azerbaijan is the aggressor state.
He assured, “We can state that this will bring a lot of change for both parties to make their decision in the US legislative field. During the meeting, the problem of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the resumption of the Minsk Group’s work, putting them on the right track, the Madrid principles, which are important for our country, the right to sovereignty, etc., were also discussed. In that logic, let me not go into detail about the reactions from that side, but let me state that they were beneficial.”
Hayk Mamijanyan also mentioned that during the meeting with Nancy Pelosi, he stated that democracy has nothing to do with the reality that exists in Armenia and added, “But the fact that the speaker mentioned that the USA wants to help Armenia due to the fact that Armenia is a democracy, we cannot question it at least at this stage, although we have presented him with all the encroachments that exist against democracy. If the USA helps Armenia because it considers Armenia to be democratic, we are very grateful for the help, but it is a huge step backwards in terms of democratic processes in Armenia.”
