“The policy of the USA in this case is in favor of Armenia. It is on Armenia’s side,” referring to the aggression carried out by Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia during the video conference entitled “Artsakh: Two years after the attack of Azerbaijan” organized by the Armenian Congress of America, Michael Rubin, a senior employee of the American Enterprise Institute, assured.
He also emphasized the application of sanctions against Turkey and the condemnation of Turkey’s policy, reminding that we have a situation similar to Cyprus in the case of Azerbaijan’s policy towards the territory of Artsakh and Armenia, when, according to him, “occupation has become a common thing.”
Therefore, from this point of view, he emphasized the clarification of the policy implemented by the USA towards Turkey and said: “Azerbaijan does not act alone. It acts as a proxy state of Turkey. We saw what support Turkey provided to Azerbaijan during the 2020 Artsakh war. It is not the case that Turkey is not aware of the latest aggression carried out by Azerbaijan on the borders of Armenia.” Referring to the implementation of Resolution 907, the termination of American military assistance to Azerbaijan, Michael Rubin also spoke about the possibility and importance of imposing sanctions on Turkey. “The question we need to talk about is whether we can also apply this sanction against the Turkish government, does NATO allow it or not? If Turkey provides direct support and military support to Azerbaijan, then on this basis, shouldn’t the USA impose sanctions against Turkey as well?”

He assured that “Azeris do not need Nagorno-Karabakh” and explained, “Ilham Aliyev uses Nagorno-Karabakh to divert people’s attention from the fact that corruption is deepening in Azerbaijan. In this regard, there is serious dissatisfaction among the society of Azerbaijan.” Speaking about the corruption processes, Michael Rubin documented the fact that the first lady of Azerbaijan, the first vice president Mehriban Aliyeva, is the goodwill ambassador of UNESCO and mentioned: “There can be no such thing. First of all, it is a conflict of interests. It also calls into question the impartiality of that organization.”
