“For me CSTO does not exist, and all we have to do is formally leave the organization”: Official deputy

October 04,2022 15:00

Vigen Khachatryan and Sergey Bagratyan, deputies of the Civil Contract faction of the National Assembly of Armenia, also participated in the discussion organized on October 2 on the topic of “Risks of staying in the CSTO and risks and opportunities of leaving the CSTO” on the proposal of the initiative “Out of the CSTO.” The MPs attached great importance to such discussions, while cautiously hinting that it would be desirable to include those with the opposite point of view in the discussion.

Sergey Bagratyan said that it is necessary to understand whether it is right to withdraw from the CSTO, because we also have a security problem. He offered to discuss from the point of view of Russia and to understand, in that case, what dangers await Armenia from Turkey and Azerbaijan. Those present did not like Bagratyan’s speech, so he “retired” immediately.

“For me CSTO does not exist and all we have to do is formally leave the organization.” For self-defense, he said that we can use any lever, we must be able to defend ourselves, then no one will talk about contracts.

According to Bagratyan, any step for the sake of Armenian defense is acceptable for him. According to Vigen Khachatryan, deputy of the National Assembly, it is dangerous to rush, one must have internal solidarity to implement any step. According to him, the government should have the courage to make decisions, but there are still only discussions. “We talk about risks, but we don’t evaluate them. To make a decision, you need to listen to all sides,” said the deputy.
