Journalists asked the Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan if he will continue to insist on the peace agenda after the video where POWs were tortured. He replied, “Yes, so that there are no more videos like this. All those people who say something negative about the peace agenda, what is the proposal: eternal war? Let’s enter Sasun and leave Mush? Sea to sea Armenia? The Prime Minister mentioned that our defense budget has an unprecedented growth, and we will continue to arm the army. Who says that there should be no army? Does the peace agenda say that there should be no army? If someone can offer a real option to all those aspirations, to the toasts that we often like to say: Armenia will be from sea to sea, we will go and occupy it, sorry, I don’t take that seriously. We cannot engage in belligerent statements and territorial claims against our neighbors in the modern world.”
In response to the question about if we are able to at least keep our territories, he answered that the territorial integrity of Armenia is not subject to discussion. The journalists reminded that the Azerbaijanis are in Jermuk, in the area of Sev Lake. They invaded our territory a long time ago, and Pashinyan declared that we will not go to war.
Alen Simonyan responded, “Yes, we will prepare to defend Armenia. You also see well that Nikol Pashinyan and the representatives of our government are dealing with the solution of the issues of Jermuk and the created situation, but it will not be by attacking Turkey and Azerbaijan, because we do not have that opportunity.”
