“I am ready to cooperate with anyone if it comes to the format of the status of Artsakh that corresponds to the result of the national liberation struggle, which, in turn, corresponded to all the norms of international law and the legislation of the USSR,” Aram Sargsyan, chairman of the Democratic Party of Armenia, told Aravot.am in a conversation. The issue is that the president of the Democratic Party has always spoken about the legal way of settling the Artsakh issue, and recently they have discussed these issues with the Artsakh authorities. From 2017, Samvel Babayan, the chairman of the United Motherland party and the former head of the Artsakh Defense Ministry, also announced the legal way to settle the Artsakh issue.
Yesterday, during the rally held in Stepanakert, Samvel Babayan spoke about the option of solving the Artsakh issue through legal means. We asked Aram Sargsyan if he is ready to combine efforts. Before that, according to our interlocutor, we should be able to thoroughly refute all statements of Nikol Pashinyan, so that the international community and the OSCE Minsk Group see that there are forces in Armenia that do not share the line that the current government of Armenia is taking. In this context, Aram Sargsyan calls all Nikol Pashinyan’s statements in the National Assembly “brazen lies,” saying that even in the “Madrid principles,” which the ADP has always criticized, three principles were clearly mentioned: territorial integrity, self-determination of nations, and the prevention of force or the threat of the use of force.
With that document, Artsakh also had an intermediate status, which enabled Artsakh to act as a subject. Aram Sargsyan reminds that there is a decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of December 1, 1989 on the unification of Armenia and Artsakh, which no one has canceled and no representative of any authority of Armenia has the right to sign a document by which Artsakh can be recognized as part of Azerbaijan. Even after the 1994 ceasefire agreement, according to Aram Sargsyan, the Republic of Artsakh was a subject, and during this time it acted as a subject, which was also accepted by the OSCE Minsk Group, while, with his similar statements, Nikol Pashinyan simply throws the issue off his head. Aram Sargsyan believes that the reason for such behavior of Nikol Pashinyan is his obligations to Turkey and Azerbaijan. “The witness of that is its humble condition today.”
