“Turkey will not open its borders. Turkey is presenting this way for Armenia to satisfy Azerbaijan’s current wish,” During a conference at the Ararat Alliance Institute Karen Chsmarityan, the former minister of the economics of the Republic of Armenia, told journalists.
According to him, the existence of Armenia as a state is already unacceptable for Turkey. Depriving Armenia of statehood is their historical aim. Karen Chshmarityan was upset: a genocide committer announced such a thing, but the international community did not seem to care.
“So, everyone is content with Turkey committing another Armenian Genocide. We cannot assume Turkey aims to make connections with Armenia, that is completely untrue. Armenia aims to have a normal relationship with everyone. By saying Armenia, I mean the Armenian nation, not its representatives, who do not have the dignity of an Armenian,” he said.
Answering the question about Turkey opening its borders, Karen Chshmarityan said: “Opening the borders does not mean their complete removal. Are our borders with Iran open or not? We do have the most favored national regime with Iran, which sets a certain tax for goods, and Iran, with a population of 80 million people, has not subjected our market to an open intervention, although the quality of their goods has exceeded Turkish ones and they are much cheaper than the Turkish ones. Nevertheless, they do not have a role of a “hegemony” in our market, and they always had an opportunity to cooperate with us. Their state did not aim for that.”

Chshmarityan says that the issue of Turkey opening its borders is overrated, both in a good and in a bad way. He said: “Those who are looking for a quick economical profit and those, who think opening the borders means that one day our subjects will be able to trade with each other. Turkish goods will occupy our market. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Before opening the border with Turkey, we need to get to know each other as business partners. Today, we do not even have a regulatory document, we do not even recognize each other as WHO members.”
