The president of the Artsakh Republic Arayik Harutyunyan in an interview with Artsakh Public TV estimated the activities of the Russian peacekeepers.
“We need to be thankful to the Russian Federation and its president for preventing the continuation of the war, which could have had irreversible consequences for us, and our country has been developing for almost two years. We managed to return most of the refugees back to Artsakh. Today, construction and economical plans are being implemented. I do not want to refer to the statistics yet, but soon we will reach the pre-war state. We also have a sufficient birth rate,” Arayik Harutyunyan said.
Arayik Harutyunyan emphasized: “Overall, I cannot imagine Artsakh’s future without Russia’s presence, both as a peacekeeping force and as a mission… Especially in the case of the recent geopolitical developments, which I follow. Of course, the main issue for us is independence, the right of the nation’s self-determination, but I cannot imagine Artsakh’s future without Russia. A question might arise, what about Armenia’s role and so on… Before, both Armenia and Artsakh’s governments were announcing that Armenia is Artsakh’s guarantor, but sadly, now the conflict is not between Armenia and Azerbaijan or Artsakh and Azerbaijan.
The conflict goes deeper than that. We need to comprehend that there are Shushi’s declarations, Azerbaijan-Turkey and after the 44-day war Turkey’s role in the region is more significant, than before the war. So not only do we expect a peacekeeping mission from Russia, but we expect more trusted guarantees from them. Of course, we accept the activity of the international community, but I do doubt Artsakh’s future without Russia’s guarantee”.
