“Old Shen and Mets Shen are cut off from other parts of Artsakh. The road from Armenia is open for certain cargoes. The road from the Old Building to Artsakh is closed,” said Davit Babayan, referring to Azerbaijan’s closing of the Berdzor Corridor in a conversation with journalists in front of the UN office in Yerevan. Davit Babayan mentioned how the Azerbaijanis reached the road.
“Those groups are from Baku or Gandzak, and what is more important, they are paid. They brought Shushi from the occupied territory of Artsakh through Hadrut, closing that road from Shushi two steps. They go out on foot and close it. They descend from the occupied territory, from Shushi, open the fence gate, and close it this way. Several Russian peacekeepers are standing there. Their presence should deter them because they don’t know Azerbaijanis well, but now they see who they are dealing with.”
Therefore, such incidents may happen all the time. In response to the observation that according to the document of November 9, the uninterruptedness of the road must be ensured, Davit Babayan said that the international community must provide this. The peacekeepers are also part of the international community. “Everyone has a role to play. In the area of Shushi, there is no road, not even a corridor. The corridor ends there. Tomorrow they can bring ten thousand people there or attack Artsakh. That is why we say that the number of peacekeepers is small. We have to restrain ourselves because we are dealing with an aggressor. For that, the number of peacekeepers should be increased and given an international mandate and authority. Whoever comes there without warning should be shot. In Kosovo, if someone advances without warning, they shoot him if he does not stop after being warned. If it is not there, a cook may come tomorrow.”
