The Spirit is limited

December 23,2022 10:33

These days I remember how I welcomed the years 1993 and 1994. I was the president’s press secretary at the time.

I don’t know the current myths about the government of that time, but my life and my friends’ life working on the presidential staff were no different from the lives of the rest of the Armenians.

In short, I celebrated the New Year in a cold apartment under the light of candles. But my mood was much higher than now.

And the problem is not only the ongoing war. I think no one doubts that the blockade of Artsakh is an act of war. For me, there is something worse and sadder than t the war; indifference in all its manifestations. Even more painful than the defeat of 2020.

During the war of 1992-94, the map of Artsakh hung in almost everyone’s home, and people used to mark where our army advanced or retreated daily. And now, the physical and virtual contact with many people shows that they, living in Armenia, do not know what is happening in Artsakh in this information age.

They don’t know because they don’t want to know; probably, it’s a defensive reaction. And that reaction, according to the well-known rules of psychology, sometimes turns into undisguised aggression. Artsakh Foreign Minister Davit Babayan presented more than two dozen comments addressed to him on his Facebook page, which are as follows: “There is no reason to support or even sympathize with the people of Artsakh.”

These extreme manifestations of the Pashinyan electorate are more than a few dozen.

But the primary “trend,” of course, is indifference. I don’t see the fire in people or, as the Prime Minister himself said during the war, “The Spirit is limited.”

And the enemy, I am sure, will not rest after any concessions or agreements. More precisely, the UN, ECHR, Russia, or France will not restrain him. Only the Armenian State and the Armenian army can restrain him. And when I say “Armenian,” I mean not only the Republic of Armenia.
