Clarification needed

December 28,2022 10:30

And so, the “defensive tactics” of the Armenian government have finally crystallized. The Berdzor Corridor is closed because Russia has demanded that Armenia enter the union state and provides the “Zangezur Corridor.” And here, our government is heroically fighting against these demands, which is why 120 thousand of our compatriots suffer.

Since this is said on an official level, through the lips of the Secretary of the Security Council and not through the lips of “pro-Western” propagandists of the government, at least two conclusions can be drawn from this statement. 1/ The Berdzor Corridor was closed by the Russians, and the role of the Azerbaijanis here is secondary because the Russian peacekeepers can remove the “activists” at any time. 2/ whatever concession Armenia makes, the “culprit” will be the people of Artsakh because it was done to save them. Regarding the second point, Artsakh has clarified it several times, including from the president’s lips, asking them not to make unjustified concessions. The first point needs to be proven: the Armenian government may be giving the correct information, and in that case, the government should issue a clear and public call to the Russian peacekeepers: “tear down the tents of the “activists” and throw those “activists” aside, and if it is not done after that, then let the peacekeepers give an articulate explanation.

Politicians in Armenia, Russia, and elsewhere will never tell the truth. It is not expected of them. But they are expected to make some more or less credible arguments. Such arguments about joining the Union States still need to be made. Having said that Russia makes such a demand to our country, the Secretary of the Security Council should specify who, when, and before whom.

For example, on such a day, during such and such a meeting, Putin, Lavrov, or any other official demanded Pashinyan, Mirzoyan, or Armen Grigoryan to enter the Union State, and the said official of Armenia responded with a sharp refusal. If that is said, I will be on the side of that Armenian official in this matter. But without specification, the claim of a requirement without an “invoice” sounds like a “bluff.”

The “Zangezur Corridor” issue is more complicated because the interests of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, and several other countries are affected here. But here, too, specification is needed. If it is said that Russia wants to open a “corridor” under its control, then it should be clarified where and in what capacity “control” means. Unlike the supposed “state of the union,” where the answer should be a resounding “no,” I think there is room for negotiation in the “corridor” issue.

The Secretary of the Security Council cannot simply speak in the air.
