The human rights mandate does not have the right to apply to the defense court. Still, it takes place that the Office of the International Representation sent a letter to the Hague Court, presenting the situation of Lachin, which is the basis of Azerbaijan’s ethnic policy towards the Armenians of Artsakh.
Kristine Grigoryan, Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, said this during a conversation with journalists after the government session on December 29. Grigoryan said that the evaluations of international legal structures regarding the rights of Artsakh Armenians caused by the Lachin Corridor are adequate. “During the 18 days, many important actors, as well as organizations, did straightforward and targeted assessments; including the issue of Lachin was discussed in the UN Security Council, and there was also an assessment by the European Commissioner for Human Rights.”
According to her, the ongoing blockade gives a reason to claim that the assessments are no longer satisfactory because the situation does not change, and it is necessary to take action. “I called on the UN Human Rights Council to send a fact-finding mission to the Lachin Corridor to understand the situation on the ground and to have a basis for the conclusions” Kristine Grigoryan summarized.
