“He is the head of the country; it’s his opinion, his decision. I can agree or not. I have taken note of it,” said Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan on January 12 during an online discussion organized by Artsakh Public Television on the occasion of the one-month blockade of Artsakh by Azerbaijan. The topic referred to RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that the Lachin Corridor is under the control of Russian peacekeepers and they are obliged to open it.
Ruben Vardanyan replied to the clarifying question: does he accept that the Russian peacekeepers should open the corridor? “The leaders of the countries and the international community should open the way because such a situation is unacceptable. I value the importance of all people in the world. We are fighting, which gives us the right to demand this from others.”
Ruben Vardanyan did not comment on the following statement of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan: “Closing the Lachin Corridor is a provocation, the ultimate goal of which is a new military escalation, and steps that are desirable for those developing; that scenario should not be implemented.”
