“We are apprehensive about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The road must be restored”. President of the National Assembly of France

“We discussed the situation in the region and the issues that arose in connection with the closure of the Lachin Corridor”. I assure you that the French partners are pretty well informed and follow the processes that are taking place in Artsakh, RA, around the Lachine Corridor,” RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan said after the meeting with French National Assembly Speaker Yaël Braun-Pivet.

In turn, Yaël Braun-Pivet, the President of the National Assembly of France, noted that being in Armenia is an obligation: “The flaring tensions make RA vulnerable, and France must stand by the brotherly countries and peoples whose territorial integrity is under attack. The events of September made a big noise in France, and we adopted a resolution demanding Azerbaijan to stop the aggression.” Yaël Braun-Pivet emphasized that France reaffirms its commitment to the dialogue process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “France has always been by the side of Armenia to strengthen its sovereignty. The vigilance of the president and our country is complete when the principles of international law are violated in Ukraine and democratic values are threatened. Those values are our compass, and France stands in solidarity with Armenia. We are apprehensive about the situation in Nagorno Karabakh. The ongoing blockade is creating a humanitarian crisis that is worsening. The road must be restored; free traffic between Armenia and Azerbaijan, an internet connection, and electricity must be restored. We will do everything to avoid a humanitarian disaster. I am also concerned about the historical and cultural heritage, which may be destroyed. About 1500 Armenian historical and cultural samples should be preserved. Dialogue between all parties must be restored.”
