“The RA foreign political agenda has completely changed. After the revolution in 2018, the diplomats do not participate in the discussions on Artsakh or Genocide issues”. Suren Sargsyan

“The international community reacts when national or state authorities speak out about problems and present their position. The authorities of Armenia are not particularly active on this occasion. By and large, the responsibility is mainly placed on the Russians”.

During the discussion on “How to keep Artsakh Armenian” organized by the “Voskanapat” center, international expert Suren Sargsyan expressed his opinion about the reaction of the international community as a result of the closure of the Berdzor corridor for 36 days. According to him, the existing responses result from the work of individual persons and lobbyists because the state’s role in this matter is minimized, which is perceived on international platforms as a clear message. “If it is not important for you, it is not important for us, or either “we cannot be more Catholic than the Pope, or be more Armenian.”

He noted that the political agenda has changed in Armenia, and the representatives of the Armenian diplomatic class after the 2018 revolution do not participate in the discussions on Artsakh or the Genocide issues, showing that it is not the state’s priority. “When it comes to the security issues of Armenia and Artsakh, our diplomats say that our priority is opening the era of peace. Nothing is surprising here. Messages go from Yerevan.

It is the biggest problem that threatens our security. In other words, the foreign policy agenda has wholly changed and revolves around just one idea: the opening of the so-called era of peace, which is one-sided. You can’t be friends with someone who doesn’t want to be friends with you; you can’t live peacefully with someone who doesn’t want to live peacefully with you; nobody even asks you.”

The international expert referred to the facts that the leader of authoritarian Azerbaijan has greater acceptance and support in democratic Europe than the leader of Armenia, declared democratic by the same Europe, stating that international “real politics” differ from the declared values, which has also led to the discrediting of international institutions or the change in the nature of their activities.
