“What is happening in Artsakh today will have a direct impact on the future of the entire region, including our country,” Naira Karapetyan, a former member of the National Assembly and president of “European Integration” NGO, expressed this opinion at the panel discussion on “How Armenia responded to Aliyev.”
According to her, if the processes in Artsakh do not go properly, we could record the disintegration of state institutions. She mentioned: “Without going into conspiracy theories, it was possible to draw simple parallels that the Turkish states, from the very first day, started a demarche against the Minister of State of Armenia, calling him a Russian agent, demanding his removal.
Any step to ensure the continuation of that recorded fact demand is treasonous. Referring to the statements of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Artsakh Artur Tovmasyan, in particular about his possible nomination as a presidential candidate, Naira Karapetyan said: “Let’s remember that Artur Tovmasyan is the representative of Arayik Harutyunyan’s party and expresses his party’s position. It could be assumed that the Arayik Harutyunyan-Ruben Vardanyan conflict had reached its culmination. What was discussed was the termination of the Republic of Artsakh. It’s another thing to stop using the term Republic of Artsakh in official documents and speeches; it means serving a certain agenda, making an order, destroying the existing state system.”

Naira Karapetyan also presented what would happen in Artsakh if the current situation was not prevented. “If the president’s resignation was announced and the National Assembly was dissolved, and according to the Constitution of Artsakh, the National Assembly and presidential elections are held simultaneously. Azerbaijan would do everything to intervene on the appointed day of the elections and, according to the constitution of the Republic of Artsakh, the elections would not be held. There would be disintegration. My prediction is that the authorities of Artsakh would not exist in that case, and the dangerous phrase in circulation in 2018-2019 – the elected representative of Artsakh, who should participate in the negotiations, would be just a person who would speak to Aliyev on behalf of the Armenians living in Artsakh. It would satisfy one of Aliyev’s demands, losing the established statehood in Artsakh, which is much more democratic than Azerbaijan during its entire 30 years.”
Naira Karapetyan said that she is now studying Ruben Vardanyan as a person and figure; at the moment, she cannot give evaluations. Then she elaborated: “From now on, I consider him as the Minister of State of Artsakh; in my estimation, I see not to say a leader of a besieged state, but a person who has taken responsibility for announcing to the world that they have made a difficult decision, but they will stay there, live. And this interferes with the Turkish agenda.
Linking the name of Ruben Vardanyan with the Russian forces is part of the big agenda so that they can get rid of that person under the influence of the connection with the Russian Federation. According to Naira Karapetyan, what is happening today in our region is the world’s struggle to remove the Russian Federation from here.
