A “mess” or a program?

January 21,2023 10:30

In social networks and personal communication, people often use the word “mess” when describing the current state of Armenia. They mean that the irresponsible, incompetent government pursuing only populist goals does not understand what it is doing and makes catastrophic mistakes, constantly repeated and accumulating, which have brought Armenian statehood to the “finish line.”

I thought so too. I avoided believing otherwise at all costs. But the apparent sequence of events of 4.5 years allows me to assume that these are not rash, crazy steps; it is an exceptional program, masked by “anti-former” propaganda and, sometimes, games to “put them in the place of madness.”

Let’s look at some of those steps. 1/ In 2018-20, the situation consistently led to the war solution, with the most pious slogans, essentially refusing negotiations and rejecting compromises. In parallel, the army and its commanders were discredited. 2/ Defeat in a war where the army had great potential to resist despite the blows inflicted on it. 3/ Handing over a large part of Artsakh to Azerbaijan, handing over a small part to Russia, and then an attempt to “hand over” that small part to Azerbaijan: “go, agree with the Azerbaijanis,” “you will live very well under their rule” with appeals to the people of Artsakh. 4/ Constantly emphasizing your weakness and inability to fight, inevitably leading to new combat operations on the borders of Armenia. Can all these steps be done randomly and with carelessness or ignorance?

If it is a conspiracy, the Turks and Russians are participating in it. Regarding the gradual weakening of his country, Putin has agreed to the famous Turkish idea, according to which there should not be an Armenian state in the South Caucasus. But the program implementer is still the government of Armenia, without which it would not have been possible. And the historical responsibility will be for all of us, especially my entire generation.

..But in the end, I want to repeat the “mantra” of today’s authorities: “the former are guilty.” First, the NSS is guilty, whose generals were only busy with their business and serving Serzh Sargsyan and did not notice what was being planned against Armenia.
