“As an EU member state, what does the German government intend to do in this situation?” Ruben Rubinyan, the head of the Armenian delegation to the PACE, asked German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during the PACE plenary session. He recalled the resolution adopted by the European Parliament, which condemned Azerbaijan’s blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh and said: “The European Parliament has called on the European Union to be actively involved and ensure that the people of Nagorno-Karabakh will no longer be under siege.”
The German Foreign Minister thanked for raising this issue, noting that it shows that they are not only looking at the Russian war in Ukraine but also see other regional conflicts that should be paid attention to. Then she continued: “This also applies to the situation related to the blockade of the Lachin Corridor. The EU decided to send an observation mission to Armenia. But in reality, this mission will make sense if we also have access from the Azerbaijani side.”
Turning to the question of what the German government intends to do, the German Foreign Minister answered: “The first and most important thing is that this observation mission also has the opportunity to work with the Azerbaijani side to observe the humanitarian situation in the conflict zone, as well as to establish justice for the people living there.”
