The hearings regarding the lawsuit filed by Armenia against Azerbaijan are continuing at the International Court of Justice of the United Nations. It was the turn of Azerbaijan’s point of view to be presented. Elnur Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s deputy foreign minister and the country’s representative at the International Court of Justice first cited Armenia’s point of view that Azerbaijan is attempting ethnic cleansing.
He said, “Azerbaijan rejects RA’s baseless accusations. RA took advantage of complaints related to Lachin road to use political leverage. Instead of trying to solve the issues, they are sowing hatred and fear against Azerbaijan. What is happening? Azerbaijan reaffirms that it has not imposed any restrictions along the Lachin Corridor and could not. According to the tripartite statement, the corridor is under the control of the Russian peacekeepers.
According to Mammadov, the protesters have publicly announced that they have no intention of blocking traffic, and dozens of cars pass by the protest site every day. “A thousand cars and trucks passed today. There were no reports of violence or confrontation. RA rejected all invitations to resolve the issue. There is no convincing explanation that Azerbaijan is deliberately harming ethnic Armenians living in Azerbaijan’s “Karabakh” economic zone, or “Karabakh” for short. We criticize the actions of RA. It refuses to provide the tripartite statement. Azerbaijan’s message is reconciliation. We hope for a peaceful future together.”
Then Elnur Mammadov asserted that “Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh are citizens of Azerbaijan,” whose rights and security Azerbaijan will supposedly ensure.
