The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Republic of Armenia for the friendly attitude to the people of Syria at such difficult times

February 09,2023 19:00
At my official invitation, I received H.E. Ms. Nora Arissian, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic and Mr. Ahmad Hassan Alathba, the Consul, Third Secretary today in the Parliament.
I expressed my deep condolences to my colleagues on the irreversible consequences of the catastrophic earthquakes in Syria.
As a consequence of the accidents in Syria, serious humanitarian problems have arisen: there are more than 1,000 victims, 100 injured, a number of unknown fates and homeless. Educational institutions, kindergartens don’t work, there is no electricity, and there is a lack of ambulances and medical equipment.
I wondered about the fates of our compatriots in Syria. According to the preliminary data, unfortunately, we already have 2 victims, and the Syrian Armenians left homeless live in Armenian churches and union halls.
The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Republic of Armenia for the friendly attitude to the people of Syria at such difficult times.
I expressed my willingness to my colleagues to use all possible levers to support Syria in such a difficult humanitarian situation.
The Ambassador informed that a memorial book of sorrow has been opened at the Syrian Embassy in Armenia, and fundraising to help citizens in serious condition is underway.
The financial support to the friendly people of Syria by all of us will contribute to improving the humanitarian situation.
