“We need to show that to avoid this humanitarian crisis, it will probably be necessary to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan, which we may demand.” To Aravot.am’s question, what tools do these missions have to put pressure on Azerbaijan to unblock the Berdzor corridor, and there is already a UN court decision on this demand; this is how the French deputy, Co-Chairman of the friendship group with Artsakh in the Council of Ministers, Francois Alphonse who arrived in Armenia on a fact-finding mission, answered during a press conference in Yerevan. He continued: “The European Union, as well as we- the EU deputies, support the Armenian issue, but we do not immediately have the opportunity to unblock the road.
But our goal is to be able to contribute to creating conditions that will make the continuation of this blockade politically inconvenient for the Baku regime.
There is a solution at our level, so we, first of all, make sure that outsiders recognize and know that these people have an awareness of the seriousness of the issue; we make them understand that behind this behavior are fascist plans, the goal of which is the elimination of the Armenian reality. We will pressure international organizations and UNESCO so that destruction does not occur in the territories occupied by the Azerbaijani army. Through this, we can move them from their position. The only pressure that the European Parliament can apply is diplomatic pressure. Europe can impose sanctions on Azerbaijan, and we want to put the EU on that path. Some deputies needed to learn how to present the issue; after a year, people were confused, and after a year, there was already this observation mission.
