Why are the perpetrators of “March 1” not judged?

March 01,2023 10:33

The number one responsible and the number one culprit of the tragic events of March 1, 2008, is Robert Kocharyan. The measures used against the protesters were illegal and implicitly proved that the police, the army, and the armed forces of the oligarchs had direct orders for brutal violence. The page of March 1 will be closed and will no longer become a matter of political speculation when all the culprits of that slaughter stand before the court.

However, let me remind you that the government changed almost five years ago in April. Many people who now sit in the palaces and the back seats of luxury “padavats”- official cars, also made their political careers flogging the crime of March 1. The whole point is that flogging is one thing, and doing government work is quite another. In particular, the current government has yet to call Robert Kocharyan to justice.

Initially, the accusation of subverting the constitutional order was brought against him. From the first day, it was clear to everyone, including non-specialists, that this accusation had no legal perspective. The “steel mandate,” swinging a hammer, can certainly make a deep impression on an electorate with the appropriate mental censure. But the populist cries are few for concrete results, including bringing the perpetrators of March 1 to justice. Calm, methodical, and professional work is needed here.

Robert Kocharyan and other “March 1” perpetrators are not brought to justice, perhaps because the Second President has “chemistry” with Vladimir Putin. And if in 2018-19 that “chemistry” could be disregarded, then today, it is perhaps dangerous for the current government.

I don’t want to take the guilt on my conscience, but there may also be “secular” topics here. In any case, the businesses related to the Kocharyan family, to put it mildly, are not exempt from government orders. On the other hand, the oligarchs who provided illegal squads for the 2008 slaughter are now the government’s best friends.

So, the relatives of the ten killed people still have to wait. Of course, if they are waiting…
