“The situation Artsakh found itself in today was not unexpected. What happened was not a sabotage attack but terrorism, the origins of which are deep. After the war, Azerbaijan has repeatedly said that Artsakh is only a territory for it. All this is done to exterminate the Artsakh Armenians and close the Artsakh issue. That attack is one of those steps, which was preceded by the closure of the Lachine Corridor. With such a situation, they want to make it impossible for Artsakh-Armenians to live in Artsakh,” Garnik Danielyan, deputy of the “Armenia” faction of the National Assembly, said in a conversation with Aravot.am, referring to the offensive and sabotage operations of Azerbaijan on the line of contact between Artsakh and Azerbaijan on March 5, as a result of which three members of the Armenian police were killed, and one employee was injured.
The biggest concern for Garnik Danielyan is that the RA government does not have precise assessments in another such situation and does not use international platforms to raise the issue. “Many meetings are held abroad, but the atrocities of Azerbaijan are not correctly evaluated. The Armenian authorities should give an adequate assessment of the genocidal policy of Azerbaijan. From our reaction, the international community should follow up. Otherwise, it will report that there is no problem. Strong reactions are needed to such incidents, so the international community understands Azerbaijan’s goal is to annihilate the Artsakh Armenians”.
Pushing forward what happened yesterday, official Baku made another claim that checkpoints should be placed in the Lachin corridor. Garnik Danielyan first emphasized that Azerbaijan’s version that weapons were transported in a police car is a lie. “Artsakh police was subjected to terrorism while performing its functions. And if Azerbaijan wants to set up a checkpoint and check entry and exit, its implementation will be the biggest failure.
Thus, Azerbaijan will arrest “undesirable” people first and then terrorize Artsakh Armenians. That should be a fight for us to show Azerbaijan’s genocidal policy. The greatest levers in this matter are in the hands of the RA government to give target assessments. Azerbaijan is carrying out and preparing again for ethnic cleansing and is becoming more and more ruthless. It is also the area of responsibility of this government because the actions of Azerbaijan do not receive an adequate evaluation and reaction. And Artsakh is not the only target. There is no territory in Armenia that Azerbaijan has no claim to.”
