“We have roots in different parts of the world. My family came from Urfa a hundred years ago. We never imagined that there would be such a conference. Their dream 100 years ago and our dream today is the same: to unite, organize and create an independent Armenia,” Noubar Afeyan, co-founder of the “Future Armenian” initiative and the “Aurora” humanitarian initiative, said at the opening of the “Future Armenian” forum.
He mentioned: “Perhaps, fortunately, that same struggle continues today. The question of the future is a crucial matter. In my opinion, throughout our history, we have not been given a great opportunity to dream, design and create the future. Others created our future, and we continued the direction of others. Thirty years ago, we were allowed to deal with our future, but, unfortunately, we couldn’t because of worries… 23 years ago, with my friend Ruben Vardanyan and many others, we started a project dedicated to future studies and vision, but we couldn’t. Now the future calls us to decide what important goals will give strength to the Armenian people.”
According to Noubar Afeyan, the role of the co-founders of this initiative is to listen to and be inspired by citizens’ ideas to implement those ideas. “Such a format unites the country and the diaspora for the first time. The future of Armenia should not be such a sad matter as the past. Otherwise, we will be in a terrible, sad situation.”
