The delegation led by the RA NA President Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of Parliament of India Shri Om Birla within the framework of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Bahrain.
At the meeting the priorities of the need of cooperating on bilateral and multilateral platforms between two countries were discussed.
Both sides highlighted the further deepening and strengthening of the inter-parliamentary relations as an important way of Armenia’s foreign policy.
The parties stated the opportunities of parliamentary diplomacy, observing as a key aspect the Friendship Groups. The RA NA President noted that he is waiting for the creation of the Friendship Group with Armenia in Parliament of India.

“Armenia is concerned about the development of the mutually beneficial cooperation in different directions, including the defense, trade, transport and communication, health, agriculture, culture, science and education, information and high technologies, tourism and other sphere,” Alen Simonyan stressed. He underscored that the presence of several thousand Indian students in Armenia greatly promotes the cultural, ethnic and religious diversity.
At the meeting issues on the security of the region were discussed. A reference was made to the crisis caused as a consequence of closing the Lachin Corridor and the need of its solution.
The RA NA President noted that from May 12, 2021 the armed forces of Azerbaijan three times violated the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and illegally invaded the sovereign territory of Armenia. He documented that Armenia highly appreciates the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, i.e. the Azerbaijani military should be withdrawn from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.
