Committee Endorses Draft Designing Use of Electronic Measures against Violators

March 18,2023 13:03

It is proposed to use electronic surveillance measures in case of urgent intervention and protective decisions, which will allow to carry out the protection of victims of violence in a much more efficient way and bring to the police’s attention all the cases that would have been left out if such surveillance measures were not applied. This was stated by the RA Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan at March 17 extraordinary sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs.

The draft law on Making Addenda to the law on Prevention of Violence in Family, Protection of Persons Subjected to Violence in Family and Restoration of Solidarity in Family was debated in the second reading.

The Government revised the draft based on the concerns and proposals raised during the first reading debate.

The MP Zaruhi Batoyan’s proposal was also accepted. The deputy proposed not to use electronic surveillance measures imperatively, but to use them only if necessary, if there is a risk that something can be out of the police’s view.

The Committee endorsed the draft.
