I hosted the delegation of Ms. Christine Weigand, the UNICEF Representative in Armenia, at the Parliament.
I once again introduced Ms. Weigand to the emotional and psychological violence of Azerbaijan against 19 Armenian children transferred from Armenia to Artsakh, which should be subject to the target assessment and condemnation by international structures.
At the discussion, I also raised the alarms that the employees of the Operative Intelligence Department of the Erebuni Department of the Police of the city Yerevan had detained minor students by using brute force, had beaten and tortured them.
UNICEF Representative Christine Weigand mentioned in her speech that she is aware of the incident of Azerbaijanis invading the bus carrying 19 Armenian children to Artsakh, and sent my letters to the relevant United Nations bodies.
UNICEF is quite actively involved in the development of a number of important legislative initiatives regulating the field of child protection. Considering incidents of violence against minors as unacceptable and very worrying, Ms. Weigand expressed hope that the upcoming legislative changes, on which they are already conducting interested discussions, will contribute to ensuring progress in the direction of violence prevention.
At the meeting, we emphasized our willingness to enhance the collaboration for the benefit of children’s rights protection.
