Depriving another opposition MP of immunity through the mediation of the Prosecutor General and the Human Rights Defender’s election once again proves that the Parliament in Armenia is still one-party. The ruling party can make any decisions, and the opposition parties can only talk.
But they also have the opportunity to speak on various broadcasts, websites, Facebook Live, YouTube, and Telegram channels. Parliament is not needed to talk today. There is no need for a judiciary either. The Prime Minister can issue an order to punish this, appoint him, and the members of the CC should only praise this or that “genius” decision or instruction of their “boss.”
Following the activities of prosecutors in the United States, you are filled with good envy when you see how independent they are from the head of the state. It is not possible to say about any prosecutor that he is Trump’s or Biden’s prosecutor, and as we can see, they are not constrained to bring charges against the head of state. And about Anna Vardapetyan, it can definitely be said that she is Pashinyan’s prosecutor. If she does not submit motions due to the arrogant behavior of CC members, and in the case of the opposition party, she does so, and then she is guided by political orientation. Notably, Artur Davtyan, who preceded her, was Serzh Sargsyan’s prosecutor and then Pashinyan’s.
The problem is, therefore, systemic. How can that problem be solved? Maybe it is necessary to raise the threshold for the election of the Prosecutor General and the Ombudsman, as well as for granting criminal prosecution against the Deputy, and for this, for example, the votes of 4/5 of the number of deputies will be required. Thus, without opposition, electing those officials or depriving the legislator of immunity will not be possible. If desired, the way out will be found; I am sure lawyers have such suggestions.

But, if we talk about the United States, let’s remember that the congress members and senators representing the Republican or Democratic parties are not in the pockets of the presidents nominated by those parties.
