“Pashinyan promised that he would recognize the integrity of Azerbaijan, and he said it sincerely. And at the same time, he questioned our 29.8 square km, begging and asking to recognize the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia”, this is how Avet Adonts, Vice President for Armenian Affairs of the Union of Armenians of Russia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, assessed the speech of the Prime Minister in the National Assembly on April 18 during the “Aravot” program “Areresum” (“Confrontation)”.
Let’s remind that Nikol Pashinyan specifically said: “Peace is possible if we record in all our international relations, not only today, but also for the future, that we recognize the Republic of Armenia on the territory of 29 thousand 800 square kilometers, more specifically, the territory of the Armenian SSR, in which we gained independence in 1991, and we Not only do we not have any territorial claims from any other country, we will never have any.”
The other guest of the program, Vahe Hovhannisyan, head of the “Alternative Projects” group, said that the source of this is the Prime Minister’s false dilemma: either there will be peace, and he will sign the treaty, or there will be war. “And I regret that his legitimate, titular opposition cannot break this because the opposite of peace does not mean war at all and does not mean new losses. There is no insane political unit or leader in Armenia who will come and say that I am leading the country to a new war and losses. No. There is a Pashinyan peace model, and there is another model that we haven’t formulated yet, because there was no conversation on that topic.”
In particular, according to him, that model is to go to “negotiations with the right content” and understand who or what makes us feel more confident in negotiations. Fundamentally was discussed Pashinyan’s unique interpretation regarding the negotiation process and particularly the Madrid principles presented in 2007.

“The Madrid principles are now a story like the Treaty of Sèvres. And on the real ground, the Turk is already in our home,” said Vahe Hovhannisyan. And according to Avet Adonts, the reason for bringing the Madrid principles into the middle of addressing now is that Pashinyan’s peace agenda is failing. “To somehow justify those failures, he goes back to the past. “Everything is known in comparison” principle: look, it was bad in the past, so it’s worse now… Of course, this primitive technology has its degree of effectiveness, but repeating it all the time is ineffective.”
Nikol Pashinyan made another suggestion in his speech, not forgetting our history, “to change the perspective of the perception of history, the socio-psychological perception.” Vahe Hovhannisyan considered guessing the prime minister’s motivations the most challenging problem. “Perhaps he understands that he has changed our people’s history, robbed them of their future, destiny… On the other hand, he may have really been inspired that he is the Messiah, he is changing everything: the philosophy, the content of history…”
And maybe the allusion referred to Armenian-Turkish relations because, in the same speech, Pashinyan stated that “a dozen flags of the Republic of Armenia flying in front of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs during Foreign Minister Mirzoyan’s visit to Ankara are not just a ceremonial attribute, but an amazing record that hope can is born where despair reigns. The flags of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey were raised over our relations and the ruins brought by the catastrophic earthquake, and I hope that shortly the Armenia-Turkey border will open and a basis will be created for the development of normal neighborly relations.”
Avet Adonts offered to recall what is under those “poetic words.” “We forget what influence and participation Turkey had during the 44-day war with all its tools. It is the eve of April 24, and the government commission responsible for the events of that day has not yet been formed. Usually, that committee was formed 1 or 1.5 months ago. What does this indicate? An attempt is being made to change history and even distort objective reality.”
