The difference between established and non-established states

April 28,2023 10:30

Information about the health condition of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is actively circulating in the Armenian media. Erdoğan did not physically participate in the nuclear fuel loading ceremony of the “Akkuyu” Nuclear Power Plant.

The first nuclear power plant built in Turkey is a major Russian-Turkish project that has been implemented since 2018. Under other circumstances, the event would have become essential to Erdoğan’s election campaign in the presidential elections scheduled for May 14.

The President of Turkey also canceled other pre-election meetings.

But, regardless of how Erdoğan’s fate will turn out and how the presidential or parliamentary elections in Turkey will end, it will not have a severe impact on the relations with Armenia, as well as on the country’s policy in the South Caucasus.

Turkey is a country that stands behind our enemy; it has been so and will remain so in case of any internal political arrangements. All the established states of the world are like that, the foreign policy strategy does not change because this or that power comes to power. Trump was considered an “isolationist”, Biden is not. Does it change anything in our case?

In a country like Armenia, the first person of the state can refuse the negotiation legacy of his predecessors, say that he is negotiating from his own “zero” point and will negotiate whatever he wants, and after the defeat, he can say that he did not negotiate at all, couldn’t manage to make it, as well as declare that it was a lost game from the start.

With such, to put it mildly, a frivolous approach, it is not accidental that the enemy chooses the moment when such a leader is in power to attack and then to tighten the ring.
