The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Armenia celebrated the King’s Day
Yerevan, April 28 — On April 27, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Armenia celebrated the birthday of King Willem-Alexander together with many high-ranking guests, representatives of the Armenian government, diplomatic missions and international organizations operating in the country, partners and friends.
Koningsdag or the King’s Day is a national holiday that is directly related to the monarch’s birthday and symbolizes national unity and solidarity. On that day, the Dutch wear orange, which is the family color of the House of Orange Nassau.
On April 27, children organize free markets to buy and sell their toys, and the King and his family visit one or two Dutch cities, this year the second biggest city of The Netherlands, Rotterdam, where they are treated on a mixture of traditional Dutch games, dances and music, as well as introduced to other folklore of the Dutch multicultural society.

For the second time since its establishment, the embassy is celebrated Koningsdag in Armenia, in difficult times for the world, the region and Armenia, noted HE Ambassador Nico Schermers.
“Armenia has been a positive exception and I would therefore like to applaud Armenia for being a beacon of hope in a darkening world. A country that has the wisdom to recognize the importance of this international legal order and has the courage to take steps in joining it․ Needless to say, the Kingdom of The Netherlands as a founder of international law stands ready to support Armenia in these endeavors,” Nico Schermers, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Armenia, mentioned in his speech.
Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, was also present at the King’s Day celebration, congratulated the government of the Netherlands and its friendly people on behalf of his country’s government on the occasion of the national holiday.
“The Netherlands is one of the leading trade partners of Armenia among the countries of the European Union, and mutual efforts should be made to further develop the Armenian-Dutch trade and economic cooperation,” Mher Grigoryan said in his speech.
The King’s Day celebration took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, guests had the opportunity to experience Dutch hospitality and taste Dutch cheese, beer and bitterballen.
