Nikol Pashinyan: I will be glad if a Peace Treaty is signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan on June 1

May 04,2023 12:30

During the National Assembly-Government Q&A session held on May 3, the deputy Gegham Manukyan from Armenia Faction asked the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan whether the format of Blinken-Bayramov-Mirzoyan trilateral meeting is the same as Lavrov-Bayramov-Mirzoyan meeting, whether the same issues are under discussion and inquired by whose decision Ruben Rubinyan left for Washington.

In response to the deputy’s question, Nikol Pashinyan said that what he has already presented to the National Assembly is being discussed in Washington.

“There is a document of proposals for Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Treaty on the table. I assigned the Foreign Ministry to familiarize you with that document, with both the Azerbaijani and the Armenian proposals, but you did not want it,” the RA Prime Minister underscored.

Nikol Pashinyan informed that the Vice President of the National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan left for Washington based on his political decision.

The opposition MP also inquired whether it is possible to sign a Peace Treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Chi ș inău on June 1, based on the document discussed in Washington, in the format of the meeting held in Prague.

“If so, I will be very glad. That’s not bad news, it’s good news. Since negotiations are going on now, any positive or negative comments I make will affect their course. I told the officials who went to Washington to negotiate freely and within the framework of our publicly expressed opinions. I emphasized that they should know that I will sign the document they negotiated with Azerbaijan.”

Nikol Pashinyan also touched upon the topic of Artsakh and stated that he will not be able to answer the question about the status of Artsakh unless there is a fixed clause in Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Treaty.

“When the negotiations with Azerbaijan are already closed, the text is ready and I announce that I am leaving to sign a Peace Treaty, only then will I be able to clearly respond to the negotiated version regarding Artsakh,” the Prime Minister of the country said.
