I hosted H.E. Nico Schermers, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Armenia at the Parliament.
We reflected on the results of the Pashinyan-Aliev-Michel meeting held in Brussels and the President of the European Council Ch. Michelle’s statement.
I mentioned that Nikol Pashinyan’s recognition of Artsakh as a part of Azerbaijan has a serious problem of legitimacy, because the RA Supreme Council’s decision of July 8, 1992 states: “It is unacceptable for the Republic of Armenia to consider any international or domestic document in which the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh will be mentioned as part of Azerbaijan.”
I presented to Mr. Ambassador the purpose and results of the petition organized on my initiative to represent the people’s will that Artsakh can never be part of Azerbaijan. I mentioned that more than 300,000 signatures were collected, which is a testimony to the simple truth that the people do not agree with the policy of the current government.
Speaking about the most serious problems of democracy in Armenia, I mentioned the illegalities that took place in the shameful session of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs, when the secretary of the ruling “Civil Contract” faction, Artur Hovhannisyan, threatened to cut off the ears and tongue of the candidate of the Human Rights Defender nominated by the opposition factions and remained unpunished. Moreover, they are still thinking about raising the issue of my dismissal, because I did not prohibit Edgar Ghazaryan from speaking during his available period.
I presented that while conducting political action, the Security Officers, on the order of the Head of the National Assembly, forcibly took my fellow MPs and me out of the National Assembly hall during the break and did not allow us to enter the National Assembly hall again. No one has been held responsible for this wrongdoing.
During our conversation with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, we explored the possibilities to expand the scope of cooperation.
