On May 16 in Reykjavik Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with Edgars Rinkēvičs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.
During the meeting, issues on the development of bilateral cooperation were discussed, in that context mutual high-level visits and regular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries were emphasised.
Views were exchanged on the priorities of Latvia’s presidency in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Minister Mirzoyan expressed hope that they would also address the current challenges, highlighting the readiness for continuous close cooperation in issues of ensuring protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Issues of the Armenia-EU partnership agenda were also touched upon.

Regional stability and security issues were discussed. Ararat Mirzoyan briefed his counterpart on the recent developments in the normalisation process of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In this context, it was stressed that Azerbaijan’s provocative and aggressive actions did not contribute to the efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace in the region. The importance of addressing the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor, the return of Armenian prisoners of war and other humanitarian issues were emphasised.
Minister Mirzoyan reaffirmed the political will of the Armenian side to achieve peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
