In an interview with the “Novaya Gazeta Europe” newspaper, Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia, stated that new mechanisms and arms supplies are necessary because Armenia is not getting what it ordered and paid to Russia. What are the reasons for this – lack of weapons or Moscow’s policy towards Armenia? We asked
“There was no problem of lack of weapons, as with the claims that Russia is unable to carry out an effective peacekeeping operation because of the war in Ukraine; the problem did not start when Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine began in 2022, from February. Russia’s non-fulfillment of its obligations began much earlier,” said our interlocutor.
To our observation that Armenian oppositionists raise the question of how normal it is to “play games” with the West and Aliyev, consider Russia a threat, bring EU observers to Armenia, but expect armaments from Russia, Armen Grigoryan, the Vice President of the Center for Policy Research, countered. “Armament was ordered from Russia and paid for it long before the agreement on the deployment of EU observers; the money was paid, they neither delivered the goods nor returned the money.”
