Let us live in peace

May 25,2023 11:01

In July 2020 was adopted the national security strategy of the Republic of Armenia. The document opens with the address of RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan; in the “National Goals” section, it is said: “International recognition of Artsakh’s right to self-determination without any restrictions.” And in the “Rules of Coexistence” section of the same message, the Prime Minister records the following.

“The sovereignty of Armenia and Artsakh, the Armenian people, is the highest value.” Also, “the goal of the negotiation process for the settlement of the Artsakh issue should be the protection of the results of the Artsakh liberation war, which was waged for the self-determination and security of the people of Artsakh,” says Pashinyan.

I will not continue the quotes. I want to draw the reader’s attention to the fact that the national security strategy of the Republic of Armenia included points regarding Artsakh, not the Armenians of Glendale, Istanbul, or Vladivostok, but Artsakh itself. It can be concluded from this that just three years ago, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the ruling team rightly believed that the security of Armenia was determined by the struggle for the self-determination of Artsakh. However, they are sure or pretend to be sure that we can build our security without Artsakh. If it is a sincere belief, not another “trick”, our government is deeply mistaken.

Perhaps a new concept of security is needed now, where it will be written that the people of Artsakh are an ethnic minority living in Azerbaijan and should behave just like the representatives of Armenian communities living in any other country. And our goal is to live peacefully in this 29.8 thousand square kilometers. The title of this new concept can be called “Let us live in peace.”

But even if we get rid of national dignity, subjecting compatriots to genocide and other moral problems, then from a purely pragmatic point of view, the desire to “live peacefully” is a utopia. It seems that our compatriots living in the border regions were convinced that after November 9, 2020, we “do not live peacefully.” In Yerevan, yes, that feeling does not exist yet. And anyone raising the alarm here can be silenced by sticking to the “a fan of Kocharyan” label. Unfortunately or fortunately, this amorphous situation will not last long.
