According to Artur Hovhannisyan, Secretary of the ruling “Civil Contract” faction, the intensity of Armenian-American relations and contacts has never been at the current level. He voiced his conviction in the National Assembly, responding to the statement of the spokesperson of the US State Department that the US supports direct negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan anywhere in the world. The Civil Contract deputy from the American negotiations did not reveal details; he said that the declassifications could harm the process.
He noted that Armenia is ready to sign the agreement, but what the possibilities will be, he cannot say. A question was also raised regarding Sergei Shoigu ‘s statement on deploying the EU observation mission to the RA borders. The Russian official again blamed the West for interfering in the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh and pushing Russia out of the region.
“If the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation believes that the EU observation mission can push Russia out of the region, this is Mr. Shoigu’s opinion; I will not comment,” was the answer. Answering the question that there was a proposal by the Russian Federation to leave the issue of the status of Nagorno Karabakh for the near future while maintaining the status quo, the MP from CC stated that the Armenian side publicly agreed to the proposal. Still, after that, the Russian Federation could not implement its claim because of Azerbaijan’s destructive behavior.
