Has Pashinyan not understood Aliyev?

May 31,2023 10:30

“The peace agreement should be based on international conditions, the road to Nakhichevan should be opened, and the Armenian army should leave Artsakh. These are our conditions, and I announce these conditions here in the city of Lachin. Let them not forget that the villages of Armenia can also be seen from here,” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Sunday, adding that the delimitation should be done on Azerbaijan’s terms.

What Aliyev is saying is clear for me and anyone following the events. The text is clear; there are no dark places and the possibility of ambiguous interpretations.

Everyone understood what Aliyev said, except for Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan, who interpreted those statements as follows. “At least several statements made by the President of Azerbaijan yesterday are not understandable. I think that Azerbaijan and international partners here should at least clarify whether this means abandoning the agreements reached in Brussels.”

If we proceed from the statement of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the essence of these agreements is to mutually recognize the sovereignty of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the 86.6 and 29.8 kilometers. It turns out that the Prime Minister of Armenia is so gullible that he thinks the President of Azerbaijan will be faithful to any agreement, not put forward new demands, and would not make new threats after repeated concessions.

If there are those who “don’t understand,” then I would like to remind you once again։ 1. The goal of Turkey and Azerbaijan is the destruction of Armenian statehood and the removal of the Armenian ethnic group from this region; 2/There is no guarantor for any contract, any written or oral agreement. The “international partners,” with whom Pashinyan has hopes, cannot practically ensure the implementation of these agreements, not because they are bad or do not like us, but because they are busy with other things and have different interests.

Pashinyan probably has an illusion that after a particular concession, when Aliyev “goes forward” again, Charles Michel or someone like him will say: “Well, that one is too much; we will punish you.”  In reality, the opposite happens: the more you give in, the more they ask of you.

With impunity, the Azerbaijani military occupied the heights near Jermuk and Sevan, the sovereign territory of RA. Even now, Aliyev threatens from Lachin that he will attack the villages of the Syunik Region of RA.

Does that say anything to our authorities?
