“Who gave Zareh Sinanyan the right to record such a thing that the Genocide recognition process has ended?” I’m sure he can’t even explain what he means when he says it’s over,” Hayk Demoyan, the former director of the “Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute,” responded to the statement of Diaspora Affairs Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan in a conversation with Aravot.am.
In response to the question that the process of recognizing the Genocide seems to have been pushed to the background, Sinanyan said, “What is the process of recognizing the Genocide? It has been recognized; the process is over, it’s over. The Genocide recognition does not give us anything except the moral effect. We should connect this issue only with our current security and peace in the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh.”
According to Demoyan’s observation, Zareh Sinanyan later tried to justify by saying that we did not understand well before this, we solved tactical problems, and we lost the strategy: “But this is said by a person who was one of the implementers of those tactics before this position receiving and Sinanyan does not feel guilty, he does not say that he made a mistake. He has adopted a teacher’s behavior and is trying to say that in whatever direction we have gone, we must come back from it, not showing honesty, not admitting that this is what today’s Russian-Turkish agenda demands.
According to Demoyan, these and several other statements should be considered in the general context to make it clear what, according to him, the plan is being implemented: “They say, “the crime of March 1 has been revealed”, “‘velvet, non-violent revolution had a greater meaning than the Karabakh liberation war”, “let’s agree on what will happen, we will not recognize ourselves as defeated,” “we do not have a cadastral certificate.”

This is enough to understand that these people do not have a political identity and could not have one because they are just agents carrying out assignments from different power centers. This statement was not accidental either. Pashinyan, who made a statement about not having a cadastral certificate, can be asked: where were your four children born, in what area, in the jungle? According to Demoyan, the recognition of the Armenian Genocide with propaganda-informational and political components continues and will continue; even if we as a society do not want it, it will have its separate course, regardless of anyone’s wishes.
According to our observation, however, there is a view in the public that many countries have recognized the Genocide, we have been flattered, but nothing has followed it; Demoyan answered: “When a person declares that the process was wrong, international recognition is nothing; and what is it, have the Jews put such a question on their agenda, are they saying that the Genocide of the Jews has been recognized in the world, we are getting retribution, everything is fine, dear people, let’s stop the process.
It is the most powerful state in the Middle East, but they not only don’t ask such a question, they don’t even think about it; they constantly emphasize it. If we follow Sinanyan’s logic, Genocide should not be mentioned in any textbook. After all, informing is also recognition; you are reporting the generations. Sinanyan takes advantage of the fact that the RA state policy was neither honest nor conscious in recognizing the Genocide.
We have always tried to find out։ Let’s see how Russia will look at it, how Turkey will look at it, etc. I have worked for ten years, and the Diaspora and the foreign audience know my work well. But the way they carried out specific actions in Tsitsernakaberd was not accidental: there was an order that Tsitsernakaberd should be “disconnected” for the time being, voices should not be heard from there because a process is taking place: Russian-Turkish rapprochement, we serve it in the sense that it should not be to create any obstacle, trouble with Turkey and Azerbaijan. In addition, if we refer to the state, these are shameful illegal actions, starting with the loss of money, which I keep talking about, and no one responds; it was shady unlawful elections. Our state did not understand what was essential here, the topic of Genocide was considered a hindering factor, and I say this should be considered as a tool for prevention. These should not be nice words, but what did we contribute that The Genocide will never happen again. We have defeated the state-building activity, and if there were not a defeated state, but a different value system, then Sinanyan would not have said such a thing; if we had a strong army, that question would be off the agenda.”
