The Governor of Syunik, Robert Ghukasyan, in a briefing with journalists in the Parliament, addressed the issue that an Iranian consulate was opened in Kapan, and now Russia has announced the opening of a consulate. “In both cases, quite a lot of work has been done. And I have great hope that this will not be the last consulate to be opened in Syunik,” he said.
To the question that, according to experts, there is a “Lavrov plan” that aims to turn Syunik into a Russian-Turkish zone, are there no concerns, Robert Ghukasyan answered: “I don’t know who is saying what, but Syunik was, is and will be Armenian. It is an inseparable part of our motherland. And every Armenian should think like this; it is not subject to discussion. Who has what plans in Syunik?
That is their problem, but at least until now, those plans have not worked, and I am sure they will not work for a long time. Ghukasyan said that after the opening of the Iranian consulate, there were many working meetings with the Iranian side, and various economic and other programs were being discussed with Iranian partners.
